- Aliens versus Predator 2 - CRASH
-February 13, 2005, 21:40 MST: Vorlon
For the longest time I have been stuck at a certain spot in AvP2 where the game would crash out and give me an error message with a bomb on it, so I sent the following e-mail to MacPlay on December 29th 2004:
"System: Mac OS 10.3.7
Processor: Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
RAM: 1 GB DDR SDRAM
Graphics Card: ATI 9600 XT
AVP2, fully updated with the patch that I downloaded from MacPlay labled: "AVP2-2003-08-08.dmg.sit" (which is 1.0.9.6 version 33).
The problem that I am experiencing is AVP2 crashing in the same spot, no matter WHAT I do.
It happens on the Marine Level where one of your objectives is to "Open Containment Tunnel 5" right at the exact spot after a guy gets pulled into a vent directly infront of me, I can do anything I want (backtrack etc...) but once I take 2 steps into that room the game crashes. The "OmniGroup Crash Catcher" then launches and tells me:
"AVP2 has encountered an unrecoverable error. (The system and other applications have not been affected.) Please enter any details you may recall about what you were doing when the application crashed. This will help us to improve future releases of AVP2."
I have been getting this same crash on previous versions of 10.3 as well...
Your help would be appreciated, because this was not a cheap game, and I've hardly played it!!
Thank you very much for your time."

On January 9th, 2005 I got the following response from Support@MacPlay.com:
"AVP2 is only supported up to OS 10.2.6
i would reccomend playing the game through this OS

What a freaking joke! Now it is well over a month later (and I've been having this problem ever since I upgraded to 10.3 in the early part of summer '04) and there is still *no* fix for the game. Holy crap, how complicated can it be, talk about not supporting their games very well! The best fix they can offer is to either downgrade my system or make it dual bootable with 10.2.6 just so I can play AvP2. Makes you appreciate REAL game companies like Blizzard who jump at the opportunity to make their games better. MacPlay needs to learn good business sense or they won't survive much longer. They'll die by the laws of Economics or by my bare hands!
- Aliens versus Predator 2 - Installation Problems
-February 28, 2004, 04:07 MST: Vorlon
Here's an laughable story at myself:
So I had just purchased Aliens versus Predator 2 for my Macintosh, installed it and tried to launch but it kept asking for my Aliens versus Predator 2 CD to be in the computer and it was making me angry because I could clearly SEE the CD mounted on my desktop so I sent the following e-mail to MacPlay:
"Before I even start, let me state that I had this same problem with the latest patch (1.0.9.6 version 33) and straight off the CD install.
The problem that I am experiencing is when I double click on AVP2 it tells me
"Alert: Please insert the Aliens vs. Predator 2 CD"
Any and all assistance would be appreciated!
Thank you much for your time"
Then it took them a nearly an entrire week to reply to me (which I was NOT impressed with btw..)
"Hello,
It sounds as if you have the wrong CD in the drive. You need to have disk #1 in the drive in order to play the game.
Thank you and hope this helps."
And I was like "THATS IT!!?"
I had assumed that if a game comes with 2 CD's it will ask me for CD#2 to play (that's based on the assumption that CD#1 is the Install CD). Well NOT IN THIS CASE. I guess it would have helped me if they had named the 2 CD's differently, but they did not.
